Robert F. Weinzapfel

Robert F. Weinzapfel, 84, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. Bob was born April 5, 1938 in Evansville to the late Julius and Loraine (Niemeier) Weinzapfel. He was a 1956 graduate of Mater Dei High School and a devoted member of St. Philip Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Bob, along with his wife Mary Ann, was inducted into the Brute` Society of the Diocese of Evansville for his service to the church in 2011. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles and painting and was a fan of Indiana University basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. Surviving Bob are his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann (Folz) Weinzapfel; daughters, Terri Scheller and Tammie (Dwayn) Bittner; sons, Dr. Tom (Jami) Weinzapfel and Tim (Tonya) Weinzapfel; sisters, June (Paul) Smith and Joan (Jerry) Bockting and a brother, Donald (Shirley) Weinzapfel. Also surviving Bob are his grandchildren, Nathan (Andrea) Scheller, Jason Scheller, Karen (Mark) Shields, Katie (Nate) McGaughey, Kendra (Ryan) Hatfield, Dustin (Christy Schile) Scheller, Tyler (Alex) Bittner, Zachary (Stephanie) Bittner, Stephanie (Steven) Albin, Chase (Courtney) Bittner, Jacob Weinzapfel, Jillian (Jeffrey) Dumond, LTJG Joshua Weinzapfel, United States Navy, Jenna Weinzapfel, Jules Weinzapfel, Jonah Weinzapfel, Jourdan Weinzapfel, Gavin Altstadt, Kendyl Weinzapfel and Reid Weinzapfel and twenty six great grandchildren. Bob was very close to his in-laws and is survived by Martha Scheller, Frank Folz, Sister Dolores Folz, OSB, Hank (Sherry) Folz, Judy Folz and Jim (Karen) Folz. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane Weinzapfel; by a son-in-law, Kenny Scheller, by father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew and Otillia Folz and in-laws, Jim Scheller, Helen (Jerry) Weinzapfel, Edna (Richard) Schenk, Rosie Folz, Richard Folz, Steve (Linda) Folz and Karen Folz. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 27, 2023 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Ryan Hilderbrand officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Philip Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 6:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 PM and from 9:30 AM until service time on Monday at St. Philip Catholic Church, 3500 St. Philip Road, S, Mt.
