Rosella M Rust

Rosella Margaret "Rose" (Goebel) Rust, 92, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Evansville, IN. Rose was born August 23, 1934, in Evansville, Indiana to the late Joseph and Amelia (Winiger) Goebel. She married her loving and faithful husband, William Frank "Bill" Rust, on September 7, 1957, at St. Philip Catholic Church. Bill preceded her in death on January 22, 2020. After their marriage, they moved to Maryland and raised their four children. She worked for many years in the Overseas program at the University College, University of Maryland. In 2006, they returned to the west side of Evansville for their retirement. Rose was a devout Catholic who was active in her parishes and derived great comfort from her faith. She was also an involved grandmother and proud great grandmother who loved playing cards and games. Though a reluctant cook, Rose enjoyed large holiday gatherings and her coleslaw was legendary. A frugal child of the war years, she was a collector of family history, canned goods, Keds and good bargains. The length and cost of this obituary would be an anathema to her. Rose is survived by her children, Michael (Melissa) Rust of Frederick, MD, Kevin (Rebecca) Rust of Oxford, MS, Gregory (Carol) Rust of St. Petersburg, FL, and Sarah (Michael) Sheehan of Arlington, VA; her grandchildren Blake (Stephanie Garrity) Rust, William (Julie) Rust, Shannon (Trevor) Reimers, Dan Rust, Alex Rust, Kate Rust, Sam (Emma) Rust, and Eli Rust; her great-grandchildren Malcolm Rust, Theo Rust, Noah Reimers, Oliver Rust, and Evelyn Rust; her sisters, Barbara (Wayne) Kent, Margaret Buechler, Jeanne Cruce and Isabel Johnson; her brother, Tony (Jean) Goebel; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her husband and parents, Rose was preceded in death by her sisters, Sr. Mary Walter Goebel, OSB, Joan Stolz and Martha McAlpine; her brothers, Joseph (Betty Kaye), Bernard and Gregory (Marilyn) Goebel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at St. Philip Catholic Church. Friends may visit with the family at 9:00 AM until service time on Friday at St. Philip Catholic Church, 3500 St. Philip Road, S.
