Shirley Bateman Bryan

Shirley (Bateman) Bryan, 84, of Evansville, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at her home. Shirley was born October 25, 1938 in Sturgis, KY to the late Leonard Joshua and Elcie (Wilbanks) Bateman. She, along with her two sisters, owned and operated the Kraft Haus in North Park. She retired as an Executive Secretary at the University of Southern Indiana after twenty-five years. Shirley and her husband, Patric, were founding members of The Turning Pointe. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Shirley was loving and caring and used her home as a gathering place for all. She had a gift for welcoming everyone into her life and was happiest when her home was filled with family, friends, laughter, and joy. No one ever went hungry at Shirley’s house. She loved to play games and was unbeatable at bridge as long as it was before 9pm. Her faith was an integral part of her life and she found great pleasure in helping her church in any way needed. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved music and musicals. She spent hours enjoying the deer, turkey, birds, squirrels, raccoons, and even skunks that lived in her beautiful backyard. Shirley is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Patric Bryan. She is also survived by her daughter, Patti (Mark) Link of Nashville, TN; her sons, Dr. Timothy (Sarah) Bryan of Huntington, WV and Peter Bryan of Evansville, IN; her grandchildren, Shannon (Derek) Pedigo, Adam Bryan, Rachel (Nicholas) Thompson, Sarah (Wilson) Bryan Gaslin, Caroline Kiser, Rebecca Bryan Hollander, and Joshua Bryan and her great-grandchildren, Wesley, Brooks, Evelynn, Rosalie, and Annabelle. Additionally she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters, Katie and Helen Buttram and by her brothers, Joseph (Glenn) Bateman, Ivan “Speedy” Bateman, and James B. Bateman. There will be a Celebration of Life event to honor Shirley at a later date but no public services will be held at this time. Her family appreciates your support and memories.
