Willard L. Strange

Willard L. Strange, 88, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at his home. He was born October 25, 1919 in Evansville, IN He owned and operated Willard’s Marathon on Broadway Avenue from 1952 to 1981. After retirement, Willard worked at Howell Park Par 3 Golf Course. He was a member of the Howell Booster Club. Willard was a U. S. Army veteran serving in World War II and a lifetime member of VFW Post # 1114. He was an active faith filled member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where he served on the church council and was a member of the Men’s Club. Willard will be remembered as a strong, caring, and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Willard was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marcella Strange, a sister, Betty Wolf, two brothers, Leo and Ed Strange, his grandmother, Carrie Harmon and a half sister, Marsella Strange. He is survived by his most beloved wife of 62 years, Leona (Muensterman) Strange, five children and their spouses, Philip and Jackie Strange, Richard and Sharon Strange, Larry and Ella Strange, Deborah and Harris Strueh, all of Evansville and Sherry and Don Adler of Wadesville, grandchildren and their spouses, Denise and Aaron Utley, Ben and Katie Strueh, Shelly and Jacob Patton, Karyn and Jason McIntyre, Stephanie and James Land, Drew Wangler, Kevin Strange, Adrienne Adler, Jordan and Nathaniel Fuller, Lindsey Adler and Taylor Strange and great grandchildren, Alex Toelle, Luke Utley, Will, Claire and Lily Strueh, Lucy Patton, Tyler Land and Blake, Brodey and Jaxon Fuller. Also surviving are four sisters, Mary Cooper, Eileen Happe, Margaret Wathen and Gail Wirtes and three brothers, John, Rex and Russell Strange and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Pat Shaw, Bob Rollett and Bobby Wathen for their help and support. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 A.M. Friday, May 30, 2008 at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10:00 A.M. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rev. David Nunning officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street where a memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church.
