Darvin J. Elpers, 88, of Haubstadt, IN passed away Monday, December 21, 2020 at Premier Healthcare in New Harmony. Darvin was born July 15, 1932 in Evansville to the late George and Lorene (Steckler) Elpers. He was a lifelong farmer, a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, the Knights of St. John at St. Wendel and a veteran of the United States Army. Darvin enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing and later in life, cooking. Surviving Darvin are his wife of 60 years, Bonnie (Mounts) Elpers; daughters, Carol Lupfer, Jacqueline (Jim) Oing, Debra (Chris) Bender and Christine (Kelly) Crowder; two sons, John (Lori) Elpers and Michael (Kelly) Elpers; one sister, Donna (Don) Gries and a brother, Eugene (Patsy) Elpers. Also surviving Darvin are sixteen grandchildren, Braden Lupfer, Adam, Tyler and Jace Elpers, Blake, Tanner and Reed Oing, Alex, Austin, Ross and Camden Bender, Courtney Bittner, Kendall Crowder, Addison, Avery and Ashton Elpers and two great grandchildren, Brock and Gabby Bender. In addition to his parents, Darvin was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerome “Cheerio” Elpers, James Albert Elpers and George F. Elpers and by two sisters, Dolly Martin and Dorothy Melton and an infant sister, Marcia. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 28, 2020 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. The funeral Mass will be live streamed on St. Wendel Catholic Church’s Facebook page. Burial will follow in St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday at St. Wendel Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to SMILE on Down’s Syndrome, P.O. Box 994, Newburgh, IN 47629.
