October 10, 1944 - March 18, 2021
David A. Hollis, of Evansville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Thursday, March 18, 2021. He was 76 and bravely endured a long battle with Parkinson's disease. David was born October 10, 1944 in Evansville to the late Clarence "Holly" and Linda (del Boca) Hollis. A proud resident of Evansville’s West Side, David grew up and lived for many years on Reitz Hill. He was a 1962 graduate of F.J. Reitz High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, and master’s degree in Elementary Education from Butler University. David taught elementary school in Lebanon, Indiana, for over 20 years and proudly coached the high school tennis team for several of them. Later in life he tuned and repaired pianos, a skill he learned from his father. A dedicated father and grandfather, David loved spending time with his children and family any chance he could get. He liked being outside and enjoyed golf, tennis, hiking and biking with family and friends. A talented musician, David wrote many songs, some of which were published, and enjoyed singing and playing the piano and guitar. A loyal Indianapolis Colts fan, he rarely missed a game. Surviving David are his son, Mark (Kim) Hollis of Zionsville, IN, and his daughter, Heather Hollis of Evansville; a sister, Dr. Sara Hollis of New Orleans, LA and half-brother, Claiborne Hollis, of Natchez, MS; and three loving granddaughters, Morgan, Sophia and Ava Hollis. Memorial services for David will be held at 3:00 PM CDT on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Pierre Funeral Home in Evansville Indiana, with Pastor Jerry Wright officiating. Private burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 PM CDT until service time on Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W.
