Donald Ray White

September 25, 1937 - July 21, 2020

Donald Ray White, 82, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the West River Health Campus. Don was born September 25, 1937 in Evansville to the late Melvin and Mathilda (Kissel) White. He worked for and retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 44 years of service. He served in the United States Army National Guard for four years and was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church. Don was a graduate of Mater Dei High School, where he played baseball on the school’s first city championship baseball team in 1955. Don also played baseball for 15 years for the St. Philip Double I League team and slow pitch softball for Whirlpool for many years. He enjoyed watching Indiana University basketball and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Surviving Don are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dave Townsend of Evansville; granddaughters, Nicole and Katelyn Townsend and great granddaughter, Raegan Townsend. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty (Martin) White; by two sisters, Eljean Mooney and Norma Moore and by a brother, Earl White. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 24, 2020 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Friday at St. Wendel Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mater Dei Band Boosters, 1300 Harmony Way, Evansville, IN 47720 or to St. Wendel Catholic Church, 10542 W. Boonville New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720.
