Ella Mae Kroeger

July 3, 1926 - June 17, 2022

Ella Mae Kroeger, 95, of Evansville, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at the West River Health Campus. Ella Mae was born July 3, 1926 in Evansville to the late Edward and Carrie (Steckler) Helfrich. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County. Ella was always known for her large garden and selling her produce to those in the community. She enjoyed baking, canning, cooking and playing clabber. She was a card shark and loved to win. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Laurie Kroeger of Wadesville; daughter-in-law, Louise Kroeger; two sisters, Julitta Flick and Mary Bittner; sisters-in-law, Vernita Koester and Erma Helfrich; five grandchildren, Greg Kroeger, Lee (Jamie) Kroeger, Jillian (Joe) Winkler, Tony Kroeger and Jeremy Kroeger and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Marlon Kroeger in 2021; by a son, Paul Kroeger; three sisters, Dolores Kiesel, Doris Peach and Bernice Schile and brothers, Melvin Helfrich and Edward Helfrich, Jr. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 20, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church Vanderburgh County. The family would like to express a special thank you to their neighbors, John, Ruby, Sherry and Kerri, Fr. Gene Schroeder; her caregiver, Gloria and Derek, Cindy and Shelly with Omni Hospice for all of their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church Vanderburgh County, 6202 W. St. Joseph Road, Evansville, IN 47720.
