Esther G. Petrig

October 26, 1939 - May 20, 2022

Esther G. (Goedde) Petrig, 82, of Evansville, passed away at home May 20, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Esther was born October 26, 1939 in Wadesville, IN to the late Alois and Yolanda (Tieken) Goedde. Esther married her caring husband Joseph Petrig on May 30, 1960, at St. Wendel Catholic Church. They have been faithful members of Resurrection Catholic Church throughout their marriage. Esther is survived by her husband Joe and their five children, Lisa Hunt, Diana (Richard) Dewig, Thomas (Sara) Petrig, Julie Riley (Phil Niemeier) of Evansville and Michael Petrig (Jason Button) of Louisville; nine grandchildren, Joshua (Michelle) Petrig, Derek (Hayden) Dewig, Jacob (Jackie) Petrig, Jessica (Nolan) Adler, Lucas (Madison) Petrig, Rachel Dewig, Megan Hunt, Alex Dewig (Molly Jillson), and Ryan Riley and five great grandchildren, Ella Petrig, Mia Petrig, Evie Adler, James Adler and Roman Adler; sisters, Alvina Titzer, Mary Martin, Antoinette Kissel and Ethelene (Robert) Petrig; brothers, Vincent Goedde, Edwin (Darlene) Goedde, Jerome (Jane) Goedde and Daniel (Gayle) Goedde and brothers-in-law, John (Maggie) Petrig and Mike (Nancy) Petrig. Esther was preceded in death by her son-in-law Dave Hunt, sisters; Emerita Ford, Henrietta Kissel and Marcella Paul and by brothers; Melvin Goedde and Alois Goedde, Jr. There is nothing Esther enjoyed more than spending time with her friends and family. Her positivity and fun-loving attitude was infectious, leaving everyone around her with a smile on their face. In her free time, Esther enjoyed volleyball parties; fishing parties; playing cards and board games; family reunions; or any reason she could find to spend time with her loving family, laughing together and enjoying life. You could always find her on the sidelines cheering on her grandchildren in any sport they played, and if you were lucky enough to be sitting next to her, she always had snacks to share. Her bunco girls, quilting sisters and church family were like her bonus family, they were a big part of her life and she loved her time spent with them. In the spring, she was always one of the first in the woods looking for morels and inviting her family to join in her hunting. She enjoyed the outdoors, and treasured the time she spent with her nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; playing and laughing right along with them. Esther was a one-of-a-kind woman, whose big heart and joyous personality left a permanent mark on every person she encountered. She has filled our hearts with lasting memories and will be greatly missed! The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Kindred Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care of Esther during the final weeks of her life. As well as the support they provided for her family along this journey. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rev. Jerry Pratt officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The funeral Mass will be live streamed on Resurrection Catholic Church’s YouTube channel which can be accessed via their website at www.resurrectionevv.com. Friends and family may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin St., where there will be a Rosary recited at 3:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 AM until service time Thursday at Resurrection Catholic Church.
