Harold A. Guetling, 94, of Evansville, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021 at Wyndmoor of Evansville. Harold, or “Hap” as he was affectionately known to his family, was born June 28, 1927 in Evansville to the late Leo and Anne (Little) Guetling. He was a 1944 graduate of FJ Reitz High School and a 1978 graduate of the University of Evansville. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Harold built his family home and was always adding on or making improvements to it. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox in 1988. Harold and his wife Jeanne traveled extensively in their retirement years, including volunteering for the Rocky Mountain National Park and LBJ Ranch in Texas. While raising their family, they were members of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Surviving Harold are daughters, Gail (Roy) Pointer, Paula (Joseph) Elliott, Nancy Lassiter, Mary Kay (John) LaFever; sons, Mark (Evie) Guetling, Michael (Connie) Guetling, Timothy Guetling, Thomas (Susan) Guetling and James Guetling; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Jeanne (Kercher) Guetling on October 3, 2021; by brothers, William, Charles, and Ralph Guetling and by a son-in-law, Larry Lassiter. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rev. Lowell Will officiating. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Thursday at Sacred Heart Church, 2701 W. Franklin Street. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of both Wyndmoor of Evansville and Heritage Hospice for the kind and compassionate care given to Harold. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evansville Wartime Museum, 7503 Petersburg Road, Evansville, IN 47725 in honor of Harold’s brother, William Guetling who died while serving in World War II in 1944.
