James E. Dunkel, 91, of Evansville, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at his home. Jim was born on September 20, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late Edward and Victoria (Schmitt) Dunkel. He worked for AT&T for over 40 years as a communications technician and was a life member of the Communication Workers of America. Jim was also a member of Resurrection Catholic Church where he was one of the first eucharistic ministers installed by the diocese of Evansville. He was inducted into the Brute` Society of the Diocese of Evansville in 2001 for his service to Resurrection church. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus and served in the United States Army National Guard from 1948 to 1957. Surviving Jim are his wife of seventy and a half years, Rosalie (Kremer) Dunkel who he married on October 6, 1951; six daughters, Kathleen Greenwell, Diane (Tom) Buskavitz, Barbara (Jeff) Raleigh, Susan (Tim) Bottoms, Carol (Glenn) Smith and Laura (Mark) Helsloot; two sons, Stephen (Brenda) Dunkel and David Dunkel; thirty-one grandchildren, forty-one great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph and Paul Dunkel and by a son-in-law, Tony Greenwell. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rev. Jerry Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Thursday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 5301 New Harmony Road.
