James A. Schenk, Sr., 87, formerly of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville, IN. Jim was born January 5, 1935 in Evansville to the late Alvin P. and Helen (Pierre) Schenk. He was a 1953 graduate of Mater Dei High School, where he participated in wrestling and football and later came back to help coach, the freshman and JV wrestling teams. He was also a graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science and later worked as a licensed funeral director. Jim was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of VFW Post 1114. While in service, Jim was trained as an operating room specialist and physician’s assistant. He was stationed at Brook Army Hospital in San Antonio, TX, Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. and the 33rd Station Hospital in Germany. He earned the Good Conduct Medal as well as the Army Occupation Medal for his service in Germany. He enjoyed antique tool collecting and 18th Century Re-enactment; was a history buff; loved to travel and his dog Sheba. He traveled extensively and had visited Austria, Belgium, Canada, England, Egypt, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Majorca, Mexico, Morocco, Sicily, Spain and Turkey. Surviving Jim are his wife of twenty-six years, Lyn Schenk; daughters, Sheree A. (James) Daniels and Stephanie (William) Morrow; son, James A. “Jimmy” (Jan) Schenk, Jr.; grandchildren, Rachel Daniels, Hannah Daniels, Jacob Daniels, Heath (Kenna) Harrison, Luke Morrow, Tyson (Kara) Melvin and Sean (Christina) Melvin and great grandchildren, Miles, Grayson, Ford, Boone, Holt, Ella, Dylan, Tristan, Caitrin, Connor, Elena, Zeke and Ginny. Also surviving Jim are stepchildren, Autumne (Andy) Southard, Lacy (Charlie) Roberts, JD (Brena) Sorgius and BJ (Heather) Sorgius and step grandchildren, Jayden, Cole, Rhys, Quinton, Kendric, Lakin, Channing, Kingsley, Sterling, Jagger, Hunter, Ziva, Pipi, and Rory. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by an infant brother. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Luke Hassler officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
