James R. Straub

James R. “Jim” Straub, 83, of Evansville, passed away on January 4, 2021 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus. Jim was a life-long member of St. Wendel Catholic Church. He graduated from Cynthiana High School then enlisted in the United States Army. He served two years, including 17 months in Germany. After his service in the Army, Jim worked for Emge Packing Company for 27 years while starting his own business, Jim Straub Mower Service. Jim worked to build his business for over 30 years before retiring in 2002. His family took over the business and built a new location in 2010. Jim continued to work and stay active in the business after retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his customers and friends. Surviving Jim are his wife of 58 years, Mary (Niemeier) Straub; a daughter, Jane (Mike) Elpers; two sons, Dennis (Kim) Straub and Scott (Kendra) Straub; a sister-in-law, Darlene Straub; nine grandchildren, Emily (Dave) Tomlinson, Madalyn (Tom) Schenk, Grant Elpers, Damon (Alyssa) Straub, Devon Straub, Julia Straub, Casey Straub, Courtney Straub and Lexie Straub; one great grandchild, Alex Tomlinson and another due to arrive in June. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Sylvia (Bauer) Straub; by a sister, Betty Richter; by three brothers, Sylvester, Francis and Bob Straub; a brother-in-law, Rick Richter and sister-in-law, Laura Beth Straub. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 11, 2021 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Monday at St. Wendel Catholic Church.
