Janet Rae Hart James, 82, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus. Janet was born July 8, 1938 in Evansville to the late Clifford and Emerene (Rainey) Williams. She worked as a registered nurse at Deaconess Hospital and a longtime active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where she organized the parish nurses, served as the nurse for Vacation Bible School and was active in Bible Study. Janet was a member of the Red Hat Society and a Clabber Club; she served as the President of the Poplar Grove Neighborhood Association, was a member of UNOS, volunteered with ECHO Clinic, helped tutor students at St. Agnes School where she also served as a room mother. She was a Girl Scout Leader and active in PTA at both Tekoppel School and Reitz High School. Surviving Janet are four daughters, Janet Helen (Art) Brunetti, Jo Ann (Mike) Walker, JaGail Darlene (Jim) Greenley and Juanita Fay (Jim) Little; one son, James Anthony (Sherry) Hart, Jr., step daughter, Kathy Sue James; stepson, Joshua (Meghan) James; sisters, Bonnie Jo Provaznik, Charlene Downen, Connie Cuttler and Teresa Evans; brothers, Billy Dean Williams, Steven Williams and Ricky Joe Williams; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; six step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her first husband, James Anthony “Tony” Hart in 1993 and by her second husband, Jacob William “Bill” James on November 15, 2020; her stepmother, Mary “Pinky” Williams; stepfather, Frank Remter; by two sisters, Anna Rose George and Patricia “Snookie” Bowers; two brothers, Jerry Ray Cavins and Thomas Lee Williams and by two grandchildren, Nicki and Josh Hart. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rev. John Brosmer officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:30 AM until service time on Thursday at St. Agnes Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Albion Fellows Bacon Center, Westside Catholic School tutoring program or to the EVSC Lunch Program.
