Joseph G. Schapker, 86, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. Joe was born November 4, 1933 in Evansville to the late Joseph David and Mary (Orth) Schapker. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he reached the rank of Captain. He worked for Whirlpool for 39 years, serving as the Vice President of Engineering before retiring in 1994. Joe graduated from the University of Evansville, attended MIT; served as a CASA volunteer and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Joe attended St. Mary Catholic Church and served the Diocese of Evansville as a deacon at Resurrection Catholic Church for many years. Joe was a loving husband, but his favorite titles were daddy and grandpa. Surviving Joe are his wife, Suzanne (Spalding) Schapker; two daughters, Julia Lothamer and Karen (Lori Leslie) Schapker; a son, Joseph Schapker, Jr.; sister, Anna Marie Hasselbrink; a son-in-law, Richard Morris; one brother, Jerome Schapker; seven grandchildren, Christian Lothamer, Olivia Lothamer, James Lindsey, Mitchell Schapker, Ashley Schapker, Auden Hibbs and Jade Hibbs and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores (Becht) Schapker in 2004; by a daughter, Kathy Morris in 2014 and a brother, Anthony Schapker in 2017. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Raymond Brenner officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Saturday at St. Mary Church, 605 Cherry Street, Evansville, IN 47713.
