Larry G. Shirley

Larry Gene Shirley, 83, transitioned peacefully into heaven on May 30, 2022, at his home in Evansville, Indiana. He was surrounded by his family and an abundance of love. Larry was born on July 8, 1938, at home in Cato, Indiana. His father, Lawrence Alfred Shirley was a carpenter, and his mother Elsie Fae (McDaniel) Shirley was a homemaker. Larry graduated from Central High School in Evansville in 1956. At age 17, he joined the military serving as an Electronic Technician in the United States Air Force for six years. He retired from both Faultless Caster and Lewis Bakeries in Evansville, Indiana. Larry was a Shriner and Freemason for many years. He enjoyed classic cars, a good steak dinner, and a game of poker with family and friends. Larry’s favorite vacation place was Gatlinburg, Tennessee where he and his wife Jeannie traveled every year. Larry and Jeannie were married for 27 years and together for 35. Larry loved his family and was a model of strength and courage. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. Larry is survived by his wife Norma Jean “Jeannie” (Staton) Shirley. His son Kent Shirley and six grandchildren. His son Lawrence “Pete” and wife Lucinda “Cindy” Shirley; grandchildren Lawrence (Danielle) Shirley II, Paige (Garrett) Byrer, Benjamin Shirley; and great grandchildren Marlee Byrer, Zoie Byrer, Laurel Shirley, and Lina Shirley. His siblings William and Scheryl Shirley. He was preceded in death by his parents. Larry will be honored with a Celebration of Life Ceremony at a later date.
