Marvin W. Hartig

September 21, 1934 - December 26, 2021

Marvin W. Hartig, 87, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at the Linda E. White Hospice House. Marvin was born September 21, 1934 in Evansville to the late Albert S. and Cornelia (Toombs) Hartig. He was a graduate of FJ Reitz High School and an avid Reitz football fan. Marvin retired from Lewis Bakery after beginning his employment there at the age of 16. At that time the business was Sunbeam Bakery. He was a member of Howell General Baptist Church and served in the United States Naval Reserves. Surviving Marvin are brothers, Donald and Robert Hartig, both of Evansville; sisters, Wilda McKibben of Albany, OR, Hilda Nagy of Evansville and Annie Kittelson of Puyallup, WA; as well as twenty-one nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jo Nell (Blaine) Hartig in 2017; by a beloved daughter, Teresa Jo Hartig Byrns in 2012 and by a brother, George Hartig in 1996. Funeral services for Marvin will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 31, 2021, Rev. Terry Gamblin and Rev. Jerry Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 6:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. The family would like to thank the staff of West River Health Campus, especially his nurse Toni, for the exceptional care he received there as well as the staff of the Linda E. White Hospice House.
