Rita "Deetz" Goebel

Rita M. “Deetz” Goebel, 72, of Evansville, passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 at 6:45 AM after an eleven-and-a-half-year battle with breast cancer. Deetz was born May 22, 1949 to the late John and Rita (Litzelman) Goebel. Deetz was a very giving and kind soul. She was affectionately known as “The Baby Whisperer” by family and friends. Although she never married or had children of her own, she showered her love on her family and friends, especially on her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Deetz retired from Whirlpool Corporation as a salaried employee after 36 years of service and later retired from Deaconess Health Systems. Deetz was a devoted member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was active in the Adoration Chapel and volunteered regularly in parish functions. She also volunteered at Mater Dei for many years popping popcorn at sporting events, where she was known as the “Popcorn Lady”. Surviving Deetz are sixteen siblings, Joyce (Pat) Rhoades, Judy (Ken) Boarman, John, Jim (Faye), Janice (Larry) Schuble, Andy (Darlene), Tony (Zetta), Mike (Melanie), Tom (Karen), Gary (Cindy), Carol (Rusty) Reising, Glenn, Beth (David) Lindauer, Terri (David) Weber, Lisa (Tom) Blankenship and Chris (Jeanene); as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Deetz was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Wanda Goebel; nieces, Vicki Schuble, Eleanor Goebel and Caroline Estes and nephews, Jeffrey Goebel and Jaxon Fischer. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Rev. Jason Gries officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 AM until service time on Friday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 918 W. Mill Road, Evansville, IN 47710. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Anthony Stephens and Heart to Heart Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Deetz.
