Arthur "Art" Masterson

Arthur Basil Masterson, age 87, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 with his family all around him. Art was most proud of serving his country from 1946 to 1948 as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and an active member of the Evansville Athletic Club for 26 years. Art worked at Lewis Brothers Bakery (Bunny Bread) for forty two years as a lead man. He was loved and respected by all who worked for him. Art retired in 1994 to his beautiful home on Barkley Lake, where he lived until just last year when they moved back to Evansville. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Charles Masterson; mother and step father, Alley and Aubrey Myers; sisters, Catherine, Viola and Rosella and brothers, Charles Masterson, Leroy, Bob, Donald and Jim Myers. Surviving Art are his ever loving wife of 67 years, Katherine (Nelson) Masterson; daughter, Kathy (Bill) Woods; sons, Steve (Dale) Masterson and Lonnie Keith (Debbie) Masterson and a sister, Tina Robertson. Also surviving are eight grandchildren who adored him, Tracy Baker, Misty Dawn Payne, Kristopher Baker, Chad Woods, Brandon Masterson, Ashley Masterson, Jeannie Rae Masterson and Christine Masterson and eleven great grandchildren. Art loved his family unconditionally and was always there to help with whatever he could. Art had many words of wisdom and life’s lessons which he passed on to all. He was most proud of his country and his beloved Katherine. He always wished people would get back to patriotism and hold their hand over their heart during the National Anthem. There are so many people to thank, but a very special thank you goes to Dr. Browning, Dr. Kim and their staffs at OHA. They were so kind and compassionate. We fought a good fight, but God said it’s time to come home. Never could we thank enough the doctors at Digestive Care, they went above and beyond what most would expect. They got a team together on a holiday weekend to do surgery on daddy. They include, Dr. Persad, Dr. Kahn, Dr. Gueslison and so many more. The nurses and staff from Heritage Hospice held us in our journey to the end. He was a great man who was loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. He will forever be known for his hospitality, his willingness to help others and his unconditional love. You never left his house hungry. He was a great man, loved by all who knew him. We will never forget the years of boating, fishing, skiing and our back porch discussions at the lake. You will be so missed. Funeral services for Art will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. Burial will follow Sunset Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday and from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
