Bettie Parker

Bettie J. (Mattingly) Parker, 80, of Evansville, was born in Sturgis, KY on August 7, 1928 and passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Bettie graduated from F. J. Reitz High School in 1946 and attended Lockyear Business College. She married her husband, Mead A. Parker, January 15, 1949. She and her husband spent many years Square Dancing and loved to travel. She retired from Deaconess Hospital after twenty one years in the Admitting Office. She was a member of West Side Christian Church where she served as a Deaconess. She was also a member of VFW Post # 1114 Ladies Auxiliary. Bettie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Mead A. Parker, her son and daughter-in-law, Roger A. and Lisa Parker, her daughter, Connie S. Parker and her friend, Larry Rohrbacher, and her sister-in-law, Elna Mattingly, all of Evansville. Bettie has three grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Sarah Shackelford (Brian) of Hurley, Wisconsin and Nicole Parker and Cody Parker, both of Evansville, one great grandchild, Allen Roy Shackelford of Hurley, Wisconsin and her little couch buddy, Max, the Yorkie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and Paul Mattingly and a brother, Bill W. Mattingly. Bettie’s family would like to thank Dr. Clovis Manley and his staff, the nurses at Deaconess Gateway Hospital who took such good care of “Buttermilk Bettie” and Vista Care Hospice, especially Heather, Ellen, Jennifer and John for the wonderful care they gave this past year. The family would also like to thank the staff of VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Pierre Funeral Home, Sister Jenny Miller and Roger Lehman officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street.
