Carl Hamilton

Carl Eugene Hamilton, Sr., 90, of Evansville, died Monday evening, February 27, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Olney, Illinois on May 19, 1921 to Herbert and Bernice Hamilton. He worked on the family farm until joining the U.S. Navy in 1943. Upon his discharge after WWII, he worked in the oilfields in Illinois and Texas. In 1957, he moved his family to Indianapolis, Indiana to work as a pipefitter for Johnson Controls. Promotions took him to Bloomington and Evansville until his retirement from Johnson Controls in 1983. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local 136. Carl loved the sport of coon hunting and had a world champion dog, Bean Blossom Buck. Carl loved his family and the Lord. He was a member of Northwest Church of Christ. He is survived by Wilma Nixola Hamilton, his loving wife of 68 years. They have 7 children: Martha Froehle (Bob), Vincie McPike (Jack), Marilyn Feaster (Don), Diana McDaniel (Terry), Donna Bowman (Ron), Carl Hamilton Jr., and Greg Hamilton (Karen). He has 17 grandchildren: Tamara Head, Melissa Gilliam, Crystal Mahoy and Charles Dowdy, Melody Miller, Jackie McPike-Bultman, Gerry Hash, Michelle Brummett, Kyle Feaster, Holly Ruskin, Eric McDaniel, Brent Feulner, Justin Bowman, Heather Hamilton, Amber Monserez, Katie Hamilton, and Andy Hamilton. Carl also has 23 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Martha Helen Lincoln, June Hillis (Harry), and Nancy Allard and sister-in-law, Evelyn Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Rob Slover officiating. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. The family sends a very special “Thank You” to Norbert and Phyllis Maudlin for being very special friends to the family. They spent hours keeping Carl company and lending support to all of the family—we will never forget their kindness. We also give our gratitude to the staff of Deaconess Hospice, who provided excellent care and support to Carl. Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess Hospice in memory of Carl.
