David W. Blum

Today we lost a man who was known as David by many, husband to his wife Doodle and dad to his sons, Brian and Brandon. He was Papaw to his four grandchildren, Allison, Abby, Carter and Hunter, friend to many and just a grouchy old man to some. David Blum was a caring man. If he liked you, he would do anything to help you or criticize how you were doing it, but he would always be there when needed. He worked many jobs through the years, including Hahn, Tyler’s Sunoco, Rideout Transmission and Keller Crescent to name a few. If he worked somewhere he didn’t like, he was quick to tell them all they did wrong and show himself the door. David had a strong love for the outdoors, rabbit hunting on his good friend Paul Tyler’s farm or fishing with his longtime friends, Art Thomas and Larry Bell. His favorite fishing spot was his camp at Lake Barkley. Many of his boys’ friends found a love for fishing at that camp. David had a long battle with health issues but bounced back each time while also adding a new piece of hardware to his bionic body. His last battle was the one that let him make the decision to go home and spend his remaining days with the love of his life. David will be missed by many. We send our apologies to Heaven, because we know he’s up there giving them hell and letting them know everything they are doing wrong. Surviving David are his wife, Cecelia “Doodle” Blum; sons, Brian (Michelle) Blum and Brandon (Helene) Blum; grandchildren, Allison (Devon), Abby (Jared), Carter and Hunter; a sister, Diane (Greg) Meadors; brother, Bobby (Natalie) Blum and sisters-in-law, Melvia (Tim) Reich and Harold (Judy Grebe) Dillworth. David was preceded in death by his parents, William and Etta May (Shanks) Blum, by sisters, Roxanne and Cathy and by an infant brother, Raymond Charles. We hope they forewarned Peter at the gates on what was coming his way. There will be no public visitation or funeral services at this time. There will be a memorial service held at a later date.
