David "Hap" Williams

David L. “Hap” Williams, age 67, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2012 at the home of his sister after a short illness. He was born January 20, 1945 in Evansville, IN. David served in the Army as a M14 Guidance Control Technician and retired from the City of Evansville. Hap was a true Westsider, an active supporter of F.J. Reitz High School and Mater Dei High School, including involvement in the Reitz Men’s Club, past president of the Reitz Big Blue Boosters and a member of the Mater Dei Men’s Club. Hap was actively involved in government, politics, civic affairs and the history of Evansville. He was a member of the Evansville and Indiana Historical Society and St. Boniface Catholic Church. Hap also had a passion for the Evansville Fire Department and volunteered his time to documenting the history of the Evansville Fire Department. One of his proudest moments was becoming an Honorary Evansville Fire Department Fire Fighter and receiving the Reitz vs. Mater Dei game ball signed by both coaches, assistant coaches and team captains. The family has been overwhelmed by the show of support from his extended Evansville Fire Department, Reitz, Mater Dei and political families. When Hap wasn’t visiting his numerous friends, he was bleeding Blue and Gray or Red and Gold. Surviving Hap are his sisters, Delcie (Clyde) Winiger of Evansville, Dorothy Williams of Milwaukee, WI and Delma McLeod of Park Forest, IL and half-brother, Dwayne Williams of Indiana. Caregivers include his niece, Carol Winiger-Redman, nephew and his wife, Chris and Jeanne Winiger, other nieces, Stephanie Williams, Tina Hile, Tanya Haas, Tara Hardaway, Tricia Small, nephew, Robert McLeod, 13 great nieces and nephews and one great great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruby (Turner) Williams and a brother, Dennis Williams. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:30 A.M. until service time on Thursday at St. Boniface. The family would like to express a special thanks to all of the Evansville Fire Department, friends and neighbors of Hap, who supported and assisted him during these past two months. The family would also like to thank Dr. Alex Dela Llana and staff for their care and compassion.
