Dorothy L. Barron

Dorothy Stephenson Barron, age 81, of Evansville, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009 at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. Dorothy was born December 20, 1927. She has been a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church since 1958, served as President of the Women’s Club and worked on numerous projects and committees. She enjoyed a long career working for Mr. Charles Day, the Evansville City Engineer, and Evansville Concrete Company, founded and operated by the Day family. Dorothy was an avid sports fan, especially U of E and IU basketball. She was truly happy spending time with her family and many dear friends. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, water aerobics at the YWCA and attending sporting events. Mrs. Barron was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Fred” Barron in 1985, a son, David in 1951, her mother, Maxine, sisters, Betty and Judy and brother, Donald. She is survived by daughters, Teresa Mangold and husband, Ralph of Newburgh; Sheri Barron and husband, David Poetker of Melbourne, FL; Angie Skogen and husband, David of Evansville; son, Robert “Ted” Barron and wife, Diane of Newburgh; grandchildren, Bryan Neale and wife, Jen; Brad Neale and wife, Brandi; Melissa Conner and husband, Doug; Lauren Plunkett and husband, Ricky; Alex, Jeff and Ian Barron; great grandchildren, Anna, Sam, Will, and Nicholas Neale; Mallory and Estella Neale; Austin and Ty Conner; Justin and Lucas Plunkett; her brother, Jack Massie and wife, Louise of Evansville; sister, Mary Jo Bannister and husband, Gene of Barefoot Bay, FL; sisters-in-law, Margaret, June and Sara Barron; brothers-in-law, Bill Phillips and Steve Barron and wife, Susan; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family expresses its deepest gratitude to the hospitalists, staff physicians, and outstanding nursing staff at Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess Hospice Care Center who provided compassionate care and comfort to Dorothy and the family. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Jim Blessinger officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street where a memorial service will be held at 5:30 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
