Elizabeth A Becker

Elizabeth A. (Gilles) Becker, age 86, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, November 05, 2015 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Clare and Lynn Hassler. Betty was born June 4, 1929 to the late John and Mathilda Ann (Simon) Gilles in Evansville, IN. Betty was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a recent member of St. Philip Catholic Church, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a Benedictine Oblate of the St. Meinrad Archabbey. Prior to becoming a homemaker, Betty had worked at Frank Spahn Insurance Agency. She had served as the last PTA President of Sacred Heart School and the first PTA President of the Westside Catholic Consolidated School. Surviving Betty are her husband of 55 years, Donald J. Becker; three daughters, Maria Kaiser, Clare (Lynn) Hassler and Beth (Randy) Immel, all of Evansville; a son, Eric (Craig Lemberger) Becker of Boston, MA; eight grandchildren, Samuel Kaiser, Leslie (Ron) Kempf, Nathan (Katie), Jacob and Luke Hassler, Brady and Brianne Allen and Devin Lembeck and four great grandchildren, Cooper, Lucy and Oliver Kempf and Zeke Hassler. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Martha Lee Gilles and Frances Burnett and a brother-in-law, Fred Radwanski. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Virginia Nunn, Helen Elfreich and Cecilia Pokorney; eight brothers, Leo, Victor, Norbert, Al, Simon, Raymond, Bernard and Joseph Gilles and a great granddaughter, Sydney Kay Kempf. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rev. Claude Burns officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, where there will be a memorial service conducted at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Monday at Sacred Heart Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Bread and Peace, the Ozanam Family Shelter or to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank.
