Elizabeth "Betty" Hamilton

Betty L. Hamilton passed away December 23, 2012 at her home. Betty was the eldest of seven children of the late Thelma Hamilton and Thomas Hamilton. She graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1954. Betty then attended night classes at Evansville College while working full-time at Ohio Valley Sound and at the same time was assisting her mother and younger siblings still at home. Betty looked after and cared for her mother. She put family as her priority; always being there as a big sister, friend and substitute Mom. She was always there to help, push and encourage, building character and provide for family. All of Betty’s siblings thank her for the gift of her love. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and obtained her CPA in 1975, making her one of just 12 women CPAs in the city of Evansville. Betty began a rewarding accounting career at Harding Shymanski and Company, P.S.C. in 1974. Her professional work skills and work ethic were highly regarded and recognized by her colleagues. She formed lifetime relationships while mentoring and helping develop the careers of many staff accountants. After her retirement in 2005, Betty enjoyed tending to her beautiful gardens, following St. Louis Cardinals baseball, yard sales, and playing cards and spending time with her family. She loved her two cats, “Momma” and “Truman”. Each year at Christmastime, Betty baked cookies and gave them to family, neighbors and friends, who always looked forward to receiving them. Betty had friendship, respect and love from so many of all ages. She had beauty, character and purity. She was a most caring, thoughtful, considerate and wonderful woman. Betty is survived by her siblings, Margaret Madigan, Tom (Jennifer) Hamilton, Bob Hamilton, Allen (Janet) Hamilton, Judy (Joe) Dickman and John (Donna) Hamilton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank all of Betty’s friends, neighbors and family, with special thanks to Dan, Beatsy, Patty, Sister Jenny, Sue and Mike and to all of the caregivers from VNA Plus and VNA Hospice, all of whom provided great comfort to Betty and her family. Betty’s wishes were to not have any funeral or memorial services. Memorial donations may be made to the Vanderburgh County Humane Society or the Evansville Rescue Mission.
