Gerald N. Parkinson, Sr.

Gerald N.(Jerry) Parkinson, Sr., age 77, of St. Philip, IN passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Deaconess Hospital Downtown. Jerry was a wonderful family man. He was a devoted husband and father and always looked forward to family time with the grandkids and great grandkids. Jerry loved his work of over 40 years in the construction industry. He was a carpenter, operator and job superintendent. He was part owner of Deig Bros. Construction Company before starting Phoenix Construction with his sons. He was a life long member of Carpenters Local #90. Jerry retired in 1994. He was a 52 year member of St. Philip Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Philip Men's Club, St. Philip Conservation Club, Mater Dei Friends & Alumni, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a supporter of Mater Dei Football and Wrestling. He enjoyed hunting; a past time he shared with his sons. He was an avid Clabber player. Jerry also enjoyed collecting and restoring antique clocks for over 30 years. In his retirement, he and Carole loved traveling in their motor home, they especially enjoyed spending the last 15 winters in Florida Surviving Jerry are his wife of 58 years, Carole (Brown) Parkinson; a daughter, Cindi Lawson of Evansville; three sons, Gerald N. “Bud” (Paula) Parkinson, Jr. of St. Philip, Daniel (Paula) Parkinson of Henderson and Jeff (Karen) Parkinson of St. Philip; a sister, Vivian (Red) Rideout of Evansville; thirteen grandchildren, Megan (Chip) Altstadt, Rhett Lawson, Rebecca (Michael) Raben, Max Parkinson, Madison (Bryan) Benke, Reece Lawson, Gerald "Jerry" Parkinson, III, Mackenzie Parkinson, Alex Parkinson, Ashley Parkinson, Mahlon Parkinson, Mikail Parkinson and Macartney Parkinson and also five great grandchildren, David Altstadt III, Jaida Benke, Nora Raben, Caroline Altstadt and Henry Lawson . Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorene (Matz) Parkinson and a brother, Charles Parkinson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Tom Kessler officiating. Burial will follow in St. Philip Church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where a memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at St. Philip Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip Catholic Church or the Mater Dei Friends and Alumni Assoc. to be split between football and wrestling.
