Jerome A. Weinzapfel

Jerome A. “Jerry” Weinzapfel, 94, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. Jerry was born July 31, 1927 in Evansville to the late George and Catherine (Wildeman) Weinzapfel. He owned and operated a corner grocery store at Lemcke Ave. and Illinois Street from 1951 to 1980 before retiring from Mead Johnson. Jerry was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and, along with his wife Helen, was inducted into the Brute` Society of the Diocese of Evansville for his service to the church. Jerry was also an active member of the West Side Nut Club, Knights of St. John Commandery #335, Knights of Columbus and Hilltop Grove. Surviving Jerry are four daughters, Cindy (Steve) Elliott, Kathy (Dan) Armstrong, Vicki (Jim) Austin and Toni (Brian Beckerle) Weinzapfel, all of Evansville; one brother, Tom Weinzapfel, DDS; thirteen grandchildren, Scott (Kathryn) Elliott, Natalie (Nick) Lindy, Craig (Jessica) Elliott, Drew Elliott, Daniel Armstrong, Christian Armstrong, Chris (Taylor) Austin, Nick (Kelsey) Austin, Haley (Jared) Droste, Lauren Rutherford, Cody (Mary Ann) Brandenstein, Weston (Jamalyn) Brandenstein and Dalton (Emily) Brandenstein and twenty two great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen (Folz) Weinzapfel in 2018 and by two brothers, Eugene and Richard Weinzapfel. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rev. John Brosmer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2701 W. Franklin Street.
