LaVerne Tenbarge

LaVerne Tenbarge passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at her home at the age of 92. LaVerne was born on February 26, 1931 in Evansville to the late William and Christine (Muensterman) Debes. She graduated from Sacred Heart Grade School and Memorial High School. LaVerne was a longtime, active member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where she sang in the church choir. She, along with her late husband Allen, were inducted into the Brute` Society of the Diocese of Evansville for their service to the church. LaVerne worked at Deaconess Hospital for over 25 years and later volunteered at the hospital as a Pink Lady. She later worked for Dr. Talley before retiring from his office at the age of 79. LaVerne, her husband Allen, and friends enjoyed dancing and belonged to the Eagles, Owls, Coterie and the Friday Night Dance Club. She and Allen also belonged to several different discussion groups, one of which lasted for over 35 years. LaVerne is survived by her seven children; Jane (Dave) Leach, Karen (Ed) Stephenson, Mary (Mike) Berendes, Teri (Lee) Chapin, Lois (Kenny) Edmondson, Joe (Chris) and Laura (Dan) Niemeier; her sister-in-law, Genell Debes; grandchildren, Stacia (Leach) Martin, Gregory Leach, Sarah (Leach) Combs, Anna Stephenson, Rachel Stephenson, Billy Wayne, Brooke Wayne, Nick Logel, Jamie (Logel) Simpson, Eric Edmondson, Andy Niemeier, Brad Niemeier, and Craig Niemeier; and twenty-one great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Allen Tenbarge in 2022 and by a brother, Donald Debes. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rev. Jerry Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a rosary recited at 7:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 5301 New Harmony Road, Evansville, IN 47720.
