Marianne Vanover

Marianne Vanover, 95, of Evansville, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. Marianne was born on August 29, 1929, in Evansville to the late Louis and Anna (Hisker) Geschwindenhammer. She was the Operations Manager at the Evansville Chamber of Commerce for 34 years prior to her retirement. She was a life member of VFW Post #1114 Ladies Auxiliary, the Riverbend Association Auxiliary, The Owls Nest #30, and Amvets Post 84 Auxiliary. She was also a member of American Legion Eugene Pate Post and The Elks Club of Mt. Vernon Indiana. Marianne was raised in Haubstadt, IN and graduated from the Academy of the Immaculate Conception (which became known as the Marion Heights Academy closing in 2000) in Ferdinand, Indiana in 1947. She majored in Music and became proficient in many instruments but decided on concentrating on harp and organ where she excelled. She continued playing piano until a few years prior to her death. Her love for music was passed on to two generations. Marianne and her husband Tom became world travelers after retirement. Besides spending winters in Honolulu, Hawaii, they traveled to England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, China, Thailand, Brazil, and Mexico. After Tom’s death, Marianne began spending half the year in Honolulu independently where she met and kept many good friends from around the country. After several years and receiving suggestions to move back home, she compromised by moving to St Petersburg, FL where she resided from 2005- 2020. She moved back to Evansville for health reasons and to be closer to family. A highlight of her travels was a mother-daughter trip to Paris in September, 2016. She had a very special relationship with her grandson, Tom. They spoke or visited daily after her return to Evansville. Surviving Marianne are her daughters, Tamara L “Tammy” Wilder (Lorie Conyers), Jane Brand Koch (Walter G. Koch II deceased), grandchildren Thomas S. Wilder, Laura Koch Chambers (Heath) of Evansville and Matthew Aaron Koch (Rebekah) of College Grove, TN. Also surviving are great grandchildren Amelia Grace Eckert, Olivia Jane Eckert, Lucas Andrew Eckert, Elizabeth Rose Koch, William Andrew Koch, Caroline Margaret Koch and Alexander Robert Koch. In addition to her parents, Marianne was preceded in death by her husband Thomas E. Vanover, Sr. in 1992; stepsons, Thomas E Vanover Jr, Perry Vanover, Anthony Vanover and a grandson Andrew Philip Koch. Funeral services for Marianne will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Pierre Funeral Home, Sr. Darlene Boyd officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 pm until service time on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street. The family wishes to thank Deaconess Hospice nurses Katey, Jane, Emily, and Marilyn for their compassionate care and company in our final days with Marianne.
