Mary Jane Bradley

Mary Jane Bradley, 84, of Evansville, passed away at her home on Friday, January 3, 2025. Mary Jane was born on February 9, 1940, in Evansville to the late Joseph B. and Cecelia (Scheller) Gries. She was a 1958 graduate of Mater Dei High School, a homemaker, and longtime member of Resurrection Catholic Church. Mary Jane, along with her husband Ernie, was inducted into the Brutè Society of the Diocese of Evansville for their service to the church. She had volunteered for over twenty-two years at the Ozanam Family Shelter; she was also a member of the home economics club, Menage Lore, and the Quilter’s Club at Resurrection Church. She enjoyed cooking her famous roast beef dinners, baking delicious cherry pies, gardening, canning vegetables, playing cards in her card club, and travelling with her family and friends. She and her husband, Ernie, had travelled together to all fifty states. Mary Jane was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City Chiefs; but more than anything she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate and compete. Surviving Mary Jane are her husband of 64 years, Ernest R. Bradley; daughters, Jean (Terry) Alvey, Sue Bradley, Debra (Bob Goebel) Head, Cindy (Tim) Marx, and Michelle (Brian) Blum; a son, Allen (Judy) Bradley; sisters, Diane (Jim) Sides, Rose (David) Duncan, and Donna McDonald; brothers, Paul (Mary) Gries, Donald (Margaret) Gries and David (Sue) Gries; sister-in-law, Ann (Michael Worrall) Gries; sixteen grandchildren, Isaac (Amy) Bradley, Emily Alvey, Joel (Sarah Elizabeth) Alvey, Mariah Bradley, Claire (Bobby Choppa) Alvey, Ethan (Meghan) Head, Mason Head, Lauren (Chandler Thompson) Marx, Ellie (Ethan) Parsons, Allison (Devon) Edmondson, Alex Marx, Abby (Jared) Edmondson, Chrissy Marx, Christian Head, Carter Blum, and Lacy Marx and six great grandchildren, Colton, Ava, Fletcher, Autumn, Grace and Iris. In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Bob” Gries; son-in-law, Trevor Head and brother-in-law, Larry McDonald. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Resurrection Catholic Church, Rev. Jerry Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:30 AM until service time on Wednesday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 5301 New Harmony Road.
