Mary Jean Martin

Mary Jean (Fischer) Martin, 88, of Poseyville, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Bethel Manor Nursing Home. Mary Jean was born October 17, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late John A. and Florence (Neff) Fischer. She was an active member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, the Ladies Sodality at St. Wendel and had served as the adult choir director at St. Wendel Church for twenty two years. Mary Jean was also a charter member of St. Ann’s Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John and their uniform club. She was a secular Franciscan with the Holy Family Fraternity and had served as a foster parent for twelve years with Catholic Charities. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and working on the family dairy farm. Surviving are three daughters, Cecile Martin and Christine (Rick) Scheller, both of Evansville and Tina Marie Johnson of Seattle, WA; three sons, Tom (Chris Robinson) Martin of Evansville, Tony (Ann) Martin, Jr. of St. Wendel and John (Julie) Martin of Mt. Vernon, IN; grandchildren, Thomas (Stephanie) Stallings, Leah (Ryan) Martin, Nathan Stallings, Katie and Daniel (Theresa) Scheller; Alissa and AJ (Nicole) Martin, Megan and Joshua Martin and eight great grandchildren, Audrey, Abigail, Evelyn and Calvin Stallings, Cameron Stallings, Eli and Ayla Martin and Rosalie Scheller. In addition to her parents, Mary Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Anthony “Tony” Martin in 1993; by two sisters, Dorothy Fischer and Patricia “Pat” Norman; by four brothers, John Robert Fischer, Francis “Frank” Fischer, Richard “Dick” Fischer and Wilburn “Bill” Fischer and by a great granddaughter, Rebecca Rose Scheller. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, January 22, 2018 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Monday at St. Wendel Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Wendel Catholic Church or to the Poor Clare Monastery.
