Mary Ann Schapker

Mary Ann Schapker, 89, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the Linda E. White Hospice House. Mary Ann was born on March 16, 1935 in Evansville to the late Victor and Olivia (Spahn) Kuhn. She was the Director of Operations for the Schapker family household for almost 70 years. Mary Ann was a 1953 graduate of Memorial High School and in recent years enjoyed attending a monthly lunch with a group of her classmates. She was very active in her children’s lives in their formative years and was proud of their accomplishments along their journey of life. She enjoyed attending many Mater Dei sporting events and other school related activities even after her children graduated. Mary Ann was a charter member of Corpus Christi Church and served as an active volunteer until a few days before her passing. She was a Eucharistic Minister for many years and particularly enjoyed participating in the Women’s Club and Senior Group in recent years. Mary Ann was inducted into the Brute Society of the Diocese of Evansville, along with her late husband Oliver, for her service work with the church. She was also a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mary Ann lived a simple life dedicated to serving others and taking care of her family, providing a wonderful example to her children and grandchildren. Surviving Mary Ann are her daughter, Jane Schapker; sons, David (Michelle) Schapker, Steven (Janet) Schapker, Daniel (Maria) Schapker and Robert (Julia) Schapker; brothers, Donald (Elaine) Kuhn and Tom (Bettye) Kuhn; eight grandchildren, Kristin (Tim) Vetter, Scott Schapker, Jared (Laura) Schapker, Caitlin (Ian) Pavlechko, Claire Schapker, Michael Schapker, Olivia Schapker and Blake Schapker and seven great grandchildren, Charles, Maddisyn and Jackson Vetter; Braxton and Olivia Schapker; Brooks and Sophie Pavlechko as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Oliver “Ollie” Schapker in 2020 and daughter in law, Caroline Schapker. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday at Corpus Christi Church, 5528 Hogue Road, Evansville, IN 47712.
