Robert Maurer

Robert J. “Rob” Maurer, 59, of Evansville, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Rob was born on January 7, 1967, in Evansville to the late Francis S. and Norma L. (Hillenbrand) Maurer. Rob was a 1985 graduate of Mater Dei High School, where he participated in and was All-State in football, wrestling and baseball. After graduating from Mater Dei, Rob went on to play baseball at the University of Evansville and was selected in the 6th round of the major league baseball draft by the Texas Rangers in 1988. Following his baseball career which saw him reach the major leagues, Rob earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Indiana. He then went to work at Toyota where he retired from in June of 2025 after 27 years. He enjoyed his Mater Dei football tailgates, Chinese buffets, vacationing in Florida and his yearly “Sausage Fest” camping trip to New Harmony. Rob married his match made in heaven, Kathy, in May of 2022. Rob dearly loved his dog Koda, his family, and his best buddies from the class of 85, but the loves of his life were his girls and grandchildren. Surviving Rob are his wife, Kathryn Maurer; daughters, Ashton Maurer and fiancée, Michael Volkman, Madi Chaykowsky and her husband, Zack and Ali Maurer and her fiancé, Andrew Schoettlin; a stepdaughter, Grace Doane; siblings and their spouses, Debbie and Bob Pigman, Vicki and Walt Siwicki, Randy and Leanne Maurer and Ron Maurer; two grandchildren, McKenna and Cole Chaykowsky, many nieces, nephews and friends who were more like family to him. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Vanderburgh County, Rev. Bernie Etienne officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6202 W. St. Joseph Road.
