Walter Hisch

Walter Martin Hisch, age 86, of Evansville, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Parkview Care Center. He was born on July 18, 1924 in St. Wendel, IN. Walter served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Sunbeam Bread Company as a delivery man for many years. He also worked at Alcoa Warrick Operations, retiring after nearly 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of St. John at St. Wendel and was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing clabber after his retirement. Walter was also a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a former member of St. Wendel Catholic Church. Walter was especially proud of raising eleven children with his beloved wife, Theresa “Babe” (Englert) Hisch, who preceded him in death in 1991. He was also preceded by his sisters, Olivia Hisch and Viola Fischer and brothers, Raymond and Andrew Hisch. Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Thelma “Butch” (Stucke) Carrel Hisch; his brother, Joseph (Allene) Hisch of St. Wendel; his children, Stephen (Mary) Hisch of Haubstadt, Thomas Hisch of Mahanoy City, PA, Mark Hisch and Vicky Berneking of Evansville, Mary (Mike) George of Princeton, Paul Hisch, James (Tina) Hisch, Charles Hisch and Carol (Steve) Collins of Poseyville, Linda (Mike) Tenbarge of Wadesville and Laura (Stan) Huelsman of Ft. Branch, IN. Also surviving are stepchildren, Sam Carrel and Frances Scofield of Texas and Joe Carrel of Evansville, 27 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. The family expresses a special thank you to Walter’s extended family, the thoughtful staff at Parkview Care Center, for their years of kind, compassionate care. Funeral services will begin at 9:15 A.M. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Pierre Funeral Home, continuing at 10:00 A.M. at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be rosary said at 3:00 P.M.
